What is DMARC?

DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) is an email authentication protocol that helps protect your domain from unauthorized use, commonly known as email spoofing.

DMARC aggregate reports are XML files sent by email receivers (like Google, Microsoft, Yahoo) that contain statistics about emails they received claiming to be from your domain. These reports show:

  • Who is sending email as your domain
  • Whether those emails passed SPF and DKIM authentication
  • What policy action was taken (none, quarantine, or reject)
